Volunteer Shift: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Hospice of the Valley

1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014

Service Project coordinator: Ruthie Wenger

We have a twofold opportunity on Saturday, November 7th: First, to recharge our spiritual batteries at the Papago Park Fall Retreat at Papago Park, and then to turn around and freely share the gifts of the Spirit with others in need. Read below about an event put on by Hospice of the Valley to benefit grieving children, which you can volunteer for.

Volunteers Needed

GCS needs 10-15 volunteers for this event; still looking for a few more. Email Ruthie at: gcsurantia@gmail.com if interested.

Of Note:

See the Papago Park Fall Retreat post for more information about this additional event happening on this same day at 12:00 Noon at Papago Park in Phoenix. There will an hour between events to allow for travel time. You are invited to both events, or just one if you so choose.

Live Event Volunteer Opportunity:

Día de los Muertos is a deeply meaningful tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have died, celebrating their lives through stories, symbols, and connection. For children who are grieving, this kind of experience can be especially powerful—it offers a gentle, culturally rich way to remember, express love, and feel less alone in their grief. By creating space for remembrance, creativity, and community, we help children and families navigate loss in a way that feels supportive, comforting, and hopeful. GCS’ presence as volunteers at this event helps make that healing space possible.

Be part of the heart of our Día de los Muertos event on Saturday, November 7th, by helping facilitate activities for children and families connected to the New Song Center for Grieving Children. Volunteers in this shift will help run activity stations, guide participants, and ensure everything flows smoothly. Your presence will help create a supportive, engaging, and compassionate space for families to connect and remember their loved ones.
